GENERAL: Majority of information for Sigmon line from Jacob Alexander Sigmon back to Hans Georg Sigmon is from the book Alex Sigmon of Hickory Creek by Doris Leak. Notes from Rootsweb contributed by David Sigmon

1. Another record had three additional children for George Sigman (b 1756) & Catherine Laughrshrin but I show them in two different families: Henry Sigman (b 1788) married Barbara Dellinger - I have him as a child of Balsar Sigman, George's brother; Peggy Sigman (b abt 1790) married Joseph Dellinger - I have her as a child of Balsar Sigman, George's brother; John Sigman (b 1793) married Catherine Trefemstredt - I have him as a child of Johann Sigman & Rachel Fricker who are cousins of George through his uncle Bernhard Sigman. Unfortunately confusing.

Another record said Georg born Feb 1756 (rather than June)

2. 1848 George's widow, Catherine filed for a military pension. She and her 7 children were living in Rock Castle, Kentucky. the children were: Elizabeth age 58 or 59, George 54, Sally, Henry, Peggy, John and Polly who was born 29 Oct 1787 and the youngest child and still living with her mother. Subject: Sigman family info

Hello,
I just found your info on the Sigman family, particularly, George Sigman in Rockcastle Co. Ky on the 1850 census.
Your Sigmans have a relationship with my brickwall David Barnet Reid/Reed and I'm hoping you might help.
In the 1850 census, I find Mary Sigman, age 53 with Catherine, 94 and Barney, 15 living next door to Alfred Houke, 37, NC, on one side and on the other side is Joseph Houke, 59, NC. a few doors away is George Sigman, 55, NC>
Now it's Jos. Houke who my David Barnet is found next door to in Garrard Co. KY 1860. 1860 is as far as I can go with this grandfather.
When a Wm. Read appears from NC as a widower in 1852 to marry an Eliz Ryder/Reeder, he lives next door to George Sigman in Rockcastle Co. on the 1860 census.
So I know there is a connection. I didn't find this Reed on your family index, but am hoping you might know of Reed and Sigmon and Houcke connections in NC.
I believe the Barnet in my David Barnet Manuel Reid/Reed might be a clue. This relative might have had three names, he first shows up as Barnet Reid in 1860 and then in 1870 in Boone Co. Ky shows up after the war and during the census both as David M. Reed and then on another side of county as Barnet Reid. I think he was into something and had to change his name.
I'd appreciate any info or ideas on this mystery!
Thanks!
Rose Berry

Rose, i can't quite fit the pieces together. here are some things you may already know about
1. the earliest sigman-hoke marriage I have is William Siegman and Sarah Sabina Hoke who married in the 1820's in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. William was born 1804 the son of Christopher Sigman and Catherine Cline. At least it pre-dates your 1860-1870 dilema.
2. I don't have any combinations of Sigman and Reeds (& spelling variations) marriages.
3. The Joseph Houk you are referring to is Joseph Houk the son of Nicholas Houck (b 1740, Bucks Co., PA) and Sarah Mouser. The couple had 8 children, Joseph being born near the end. Father Nicholas died in Rockcastle Co., KY, your favorite area.
4. Joseph Houk's brother, Frederick (b 1776) married Elizabaeth Rider 1800 in Burke Co., North Carolina.
5. The George Sigman you refer to is George Sigman (b 1795, Lincoln Co., NC) who married Elender "Nellie" Hise. They had 13 children. In about 1839 the couple moved from Lincoln Co to Rockcastle Co., KY. George's mother is the Catharine you are talking about. She is Catherine Laughrshrum (b 1762) who outlived her husband George Siegman (1756-1841), and the Mary you refer to is probably George (b 1795)'s sister who was born 1797. I have no husb for her so it is natural she would be living with her mother - but she does show up as a widow with 3 children in the 1860 census (next to bro George) so maybe she was george's sister or the wife of one of his brothers (I don't have marriages for all of them).
6. The Barnet is prob George's son, Barnet, born 1835 and at the home of his grandmother at the time of the census

I know none of this solves your problem with David Barnet Reid/Reed but perhaps a couple of more pieces to the puzzle will be helpful.

good luck, denney
